Whole Balochistan converted into cantonments: Mengal

BELA: Former chief minister Balochistan and chairman Balochistan National Party (Mengal Group) Sardar Akhtar Mengal has accused the government has converted the whole of Balochistan into cantonments.

He said that the masses of Balochistan required basic necessities, not cantonments. He also expressed his strong resentment over the fact that 1,00,000 acres of estate in Las Bela has been granted to PAF.

Talking to newsmen on Thursday, he said if government is "steadfast" over its decisions about the province than we would also "continue our struggle". He also accused "Maulanas of Balochistan" and the "MQM" of Sindh of assisting the establishment.

He said that "three true and selfless sardars of Balochistan are fighting for the rights of the province.

Replying to a question, he said that if the government is so keen on fragmentation of provinces it might as well as divide Punjab into 100 parts, but they should understand that Balochistan is not something " to be donated into charity".

He said that about 20,000 Punjabis are settled in Balochistan, and Gwadar Port Project would induct another wave of "outside settlers" into the Province.

Using some really derogatory language, he accused "some so-called sardars of Balochistan " who were conniving with the government and Chief Minister of the Province who had literally "donated his loyalties to Musharraf as dowry".

He vowed to foil the "nefarious attempts of the regime " to "occupy" the coastlines of Baluchistan.

Replying to another question, he lauded Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif as political leaders of their respective parties and should definitely make a comeback to Pakistan and face the charges leveled against them in "Masses’ accountability courts" since there was no guarantee about national courts, since they are influenced by general dictators.

He accused MQM’s Altaf Hussain of just using empty words, sans any "conducive actions". He also accused all the provincial governments as being mere puppets in the hands of Federal government.

About taking part in the forthcoming general elections he said that his party would decide after evaluating the situation, since there are hardly any chances of a transparent and fair elections, since Election commissioner is not partial and free to exercise his powers.

He vowed not to let "any expediency hinder the struggle for rights of masses" in the Province. MNA’s Sardar Rauf Mengal and MPA Akbar Mengal were also present on the occasion.
