Balochistan : A Comment by a Balochi

Even though President Musharraf and Balochistan's Chief Minister,
Jam Yusuf, have made references to RAW-funded separatist camps as
the source of the tragic loss of lives there, the government has
failed to rally the Muslims of Balochistan to reject the dangerous
call of separatism.

On the contrary, the government has brought discord and disunity, by
pushing ahead with the construction of a deep-sea port at Gwadar and
cantonments in Balochistan despite local Baloch protest.
Now, although the government claims that such initiatives are aimed
at improving the local economy, these projects are actually to
benefit large capitalist interests, such as Western merchant
shipping agents and Western energy giants that are keen to explore
and exploit Balochistan's abundant gas resources.

In fact, opening valuable local resources to Western interests has
never benefited any Third World country, rather it is the major
reason for the increasing divide between the Western world and the
resource rich Third World.

Whilst Western multinationals and economies thrive on Third World
resources, the local economies are left to provide cheap labour for
Western interests and survive on what is left of royalties after the
corruption-ridden local governments have had their share.
